The Pixie Project

I've always wanted a pixie haircut.  Yes, as in cutting off all my hair.  Do I have one or have I ever?  No.  I've lacked the motivation and have my fears keeping me from going "under the knife."  But, I want to do it.  For better or worse I want to do it and so what better way than to make it fun and to make it about something important. I'm partnering with Mocha Club (read more about them here) to raise money to rescue girls who are stuck in the sex industry.  Check out my Pixie Project video below for a better idea of what this is all about:

What this project is about:
This project is not about me.  It is not about my hair.  The Pixie Project is about taking things in our own lives and turning them into something big, something fun, and something important.  It's not just a haircut anymore and it's not just about my apprehensions surrounding what's fashionable or feminine, but it is about rehabilitating women at risk.  It's about pushing myself to look past my own fears and selfish desires to make a lasting impact on someone else's life.

Women at Risk:
"Women and children are often the most exposed and abused victims of injustice, especially in the war-torn areas of Africa. In Nazaret, Ethiopia, Mocha Club helps rehabilitate women in Ethiopia who were forced into a life of prostitution as an attempt to escape their situation of poverty. The “Women At Risk” program provides spiritual, emotional, and psychological counseling and helps them find alternate means of income to support themselves and their children." -Mocha Club website

you should know:
1 of 9 women in Ethiopia's capital city of Addis Ababa is forced into prostitution
3 of 4 women in this lifestyle have AIDS and for many, this is a death sentence

My Goal:
During the month of August I will seek to raise $1,200.  This amount of money is the amount needed to bring three woman out of prostitution and see them through counseling and job training for an entire year while also providing spiritual guidance, daycare and/or school fees for their children and medical expenses for both mother and child. The rehabilitation that Mocha Club is able to provide these women is holistic in nature and focuses on the whole woman, equipping her well for a fruitful future.

At the conclusion of my fundraising period, if I have raised my goal, I will walk myself on into a barber shop (that just sounded good, but lets be honest - i'm hoping for a nice salon) and cut off nearly all of my hair.  Obviously we can raise more money and help more woman, so don't stop if my goal is reached.

Donate:
By following this link you will be redirected to my fundraising page on the Mocha Club website (once there, click the blue donate button under my picture).  You can also click The Pixie Project button on my sidebar.  All donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt for your records.  $4 or $400, whatever you can give - any amount is helpful.  Let's do something wonderful together and give women a second chance at life.

{Can't wait to chop all this off!}
