Miscellany Monday

{1}   I haven't "run" in forever.  I used to love it.  I love the 1/2 marathon.  I loved the 7 miles runs the best.  I loved exploring the streets of Nashville.  Now I jog a couple times a week.  I miss it & yet I don't.  Not sure what to make of that.  I called myself a "runner" a few months ago, not anymore. Or, if I am still a "runner," I'm an apathetic one -- the challenge and thrill and feeling of accomplishment have all packed their bags and headed north for cooler weather.  Is that pathetic?  Do any of you "runners" go through lazy droughts like me?

{2}  Speaking of (non)lazy droughts -- my friend Emily was in town for the the Music City Sprint Triathlon.  This is what I aspired to do after finishing the 1/2 this past spring -- but I had to obstacles: 1. I don't have a bike & 2. I don't know how to swim in a non-recreational way.  Breast stroke? Free style? Yea, not me.  I thought I would attempt to overcome these challenges, but like I said in miscellany {1}, laziness set in.  Anywhoo...It was a beautiful (sizzling hot) morning in Nashville and David, David (Em's husband) & I had so much fun cheering on Emily.  Em- You rocked it girl! Way to go!!

Quick back story -- David and I met & fell in love while working as counselors at Camp Vesper Point.  Our second summer at camp I met Emily who followed suit and also met and fell in love with a fellow counselor named David.  So the moral of the story -- if you want to marry a cute guy named David, go to CVP.

{3} I haven't seen Inception yet... I really want to!

{4} This is gross and perhaps TMI -- but I've started taking fish oil supplements.  Lots of good things about taking them, but does anyone else have some non-nice-tasting repeats an hour later?! ick!

  1. I concur, fish oil can be a little disturbing to the palatte. And running funks come and go, it's just a matter of putting your foot down and saying NO to laziness and against every fiber of your tired body that is yearning to stay in bed, you put on your sneakers and walk out the door.

That is the battle right there, and it is so much easier said than done.

  2. Hi - I can relate to your running comments, I too have times when I am categorically 'a runner' and then other times when that slips away. At the moment I miss it - but as a conceptual thing - the reality of putting on my running shoes....hmmm it's not grabbing me! Lou x

  3. 1. have you heard of running toes-first? jamie & i read about it once. it's supposed to be better for your knees i think.

  4. I have a Q for you - I consider myself a moderate to lazy-ass exerciser, meaning I'll get into it for a few weeks and then do nothing for a few weeks. One of the things I had never liked to do was run (not since college when I had to!), but so many of you gals do run and all of you seem to really enjoy it. So my my long-winded Q for you is if you have any recs for a newbie looking to get motivated to get started running? Thanks!

  5. Blair,
I take FISH oil every day, but not in the 3-capsule recommended form... only one or two on top of other vitamins. The taste is so much better for me when I don't take all three... but I don't know if my doctor would want that... hehe.

  7. I ran a half marathon once and then went in a running slump for like 3 months afterwards...I was just tired from running almost every day that my mind needed a break. It gets better :)

  8. I've really been struggling with running since I returned to NJ from CA -- the humidity and heat here can be really stifling at times. I'm slowly working my way back up to long runs, but there are days when the weather is so bad, I don't even want to set foot outside.

  16. You have to buy the odorless Fish oil pills. I get "Nature Made". But make sure it specifies odorless, so you don't get the fishy burps an hour later!!

oh and i just started taking fish oil too.. i was going to take 3 pills a day but i only took one. my husband warned me about the burps so he told me to drink LOTS of water w/ the pill and that should help?? i have yet to test out that theory though!! let me know if you try it and it works!

  22. I call myself a runner, although I don't always do it... :)

  23. I go through phases like that with my running, too. Sometimes it's hard to just do it anyway, and I don't enjoy it as much for a little while, but then it's fun again.

As for the fish oil, I take it, too, but I buy the ones that say "no fish burps." Ha, that's actually what they are called! I think the brand is Nature's Bounty or something similar. The label says "all natural."
